I just think that a level of knowledge that is necessary to reduce the risk does not necessarily have to be through medical training, however it certainly can't hurt. I have watched a scene where the female dominant truly was punching her male sub in the classic punch posture. He seemed to really be enjoying it. Granted, your average 5' female isn't going to throw a punch like Tyson, she still got in some pretty good hits that made those of us watching wince ever so slightly. However as someone with a medical background the damage you can possibly do with impact play once you understand what to hit and what not to hit, how hard to hit and how often to hit can be minimised. I do agree with you that edge play will always carry an inherent risk that can only be assumed and never controlled. I am very happy that you expanded on the question and very grateful for the answer. I know I could never do this type of play.
